We want to do all we can to comfort our patients when they’re getting any dental work done, whether they’re getting dental implants or just a simple teeth cleaning. Many patients are anxious, fearful or even terrified of going to the dentist. While we assure you that visiting the dentist is nothing to be worried about, we understand that in many cases, this fear isn’t something that can be overcome through simple words. However, if you want to keep your body in the best shape possible, visiting the dentist isn’t something that you want to avoid. If you find yourself in this situation, we’re proud to offer sedation dentistry, including nitrous oxide and oral sedation, in our Venice, FL office to make your stay with us more comfortable.
About Sedation Dentistry
Only qualified dentists with the appropriate training are able to perform sedation dentistry. As your trusted Venice, FL dentists, Dr. Ryan S. Holbrook and Dr. Jose Horak are certified to perform this helpful procedure. This procedure is completely safe, as our trained team will monitor you constantly throughout the appointment. One of the major benefits of sedation dentistry is that in addition to relaxing you, it will allow for dental work to be completed in a single visit when it may otherwise take multiple visits. This will save you time and keep you from missing extra work or any other activities.
Nitrous Oxide
We can administer nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas, to our patients in order to enhance their comfort and relieve their anxiety. After you’re seated, you’ll then inhale the gas (which is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen) through a face mask. When you breathe it in, you’ll start to relax and you won’t feel or recognize any pain. After the dental treatment is over, the nitrous oxide will be turned off, and oxygen will be administered in order to flush out any remaining gas. The effects of nitrous oxide will wear off quickly. You’ll even be capable of driving yourself home after the visit and continuing with your daily activities.
Oral Sedation
For oral sedation to work, you’ll need to take a pill the night before your visit with us. For this sedation dentistry process, you’ll be sedated but still conscious, however, you’ll be in a relaxed state and you likely won’t remember the procedure at all – you’ll just wake up to a new and beautiful smile. You’ll need to have a friend or relative bring you to the appointment and also take you home.
